Who I am

I'm a trained journalist with 30 years' experience in newspapers, public relations and communications. I've handled internal and external PR/communications for some of the UK's best known organisations and I'm happy to work independently or as part of a team.

My experience takes in public and private sectors, industrial and service organisations - bringing an awareness, knowledge and sensitivity that enables connection with a range of target audiences both internally and externally.

Who I've worked for

A solid journalistic background - forged with two local newspaper groups - has paved the way for a career in public relations/communications with some of the UK's best-known organisations.

I've had internal and external communications experience with Royal Mail and the Automobile Association, as well as big industrials like Pilkington plc and BICC plc.

I've also worked in local government and within an agency environment.

Achievements

Over the years I've applied my skills to a range of issues, projects and challenges including:

  • Promoting the ascent of Everest via one of its toughest routes - as part of a company sponsorship deal.
  • Interviewing cabinet ministers.
  • Helping to lead one of the UK's biggest workforces through a period of unprecedented change, as a writer with Courier - Royal Mail's award winning employee newspaper.
  • Helping the Automobile Association to successfully launch a series of guide books.
  • Playing a part in the successful local authority campaign to persuade a leading employer to retain manufacturing in the area.
  • Securing coverage in many national daily newspapers and magazines - generated by press releases.
  • Driving up the number of 'hits' on Royal Mail's intranet site.
  • Devising a successful PR strategy for TV Licensing enforcement officers.
